Like a lot of Wright’s homes, the Oscar B. Balch House is architecturally important for being a design accomplished at the top of Wright’s exploration of the Prairie School motion. However, this residence can also be important for being Wright’s first commission after returning to Oak Park after abandoning his family and escaping to Europe with his mistress, Mamah Cheney. The Young House is another residence that was built in the 1870s but later transformed by Wright within the Nineties. Though originally built in the Tudor Revival type, Wright added a wide outside porch and fireplaces to the lounge and master bedrooms.
